Game Gripe of the Week

Week 2 : Fanboys

Okay so this week i sorta cheated, its more of a general gaming gripe this week. Now I dont have a problem with a lot of fanboys, i'm sorta one myself, I used to think Nintendo were great, only had their consoles , and these days i'm partial to Sega.

But flame me for this all you like, but this is with good reason. A lot of fanboys, and these are the people who tick me off, are absolutely bias though. For me and a few others, they are loyal to one but appreciate the others, or in my case own the others with all the exclusive AAA games these days but anyhoo, on with the gripe.

I'm sure you know the kind i'm talking about, the greystation gaycube variety. The fact is most of the time, they have never even given the other consoles the time of day, they just automatically think its awful because its not the one they could afford, or the one they got, urgo, it must be bad because they dont have it.

I've known a fair few people like this, and even fanboy journalist exists particularly in single format for obvious reasons. But often it turns out they're not joking and it is their honest opinion. Which makes it even more sad. A lot of the time i think they would actually enjoy the console if they just gave it a chance, but thats not what bugs me.

They dont even give things a chance , or for that matter, know anything about it. Which makes it even worse, especially when its so obvious they know nothing at all, yet the less knowledgable actually believe what they say and share their view. This can lead to dangerous events, for instance the Sony hype-wagon had people saying how awful the Dreamcast was a year before the PS2 had even come out. Sure, the PS2 is a slightly more impressive piece of kit, with the dvd player and backwards compatablity, but dont forget, consoles are designed to play games, and its on the games things should be judged (and increasingly it seems they're not).

I mean all the bad hype surrounds the Gamecube now, people writing it off even before it was a year old, and all the Playstation 2 magazines using this to compound it further into peoples minds that its rubbish when it , like the Dreamcast has fantastic games.

Anyway this just really bugs me, people might not have the same tastes as you, games wise or other, it doesnt mean your ways right and theres is wrong, everyones entitled to their opinion. Give them a chance and just dont write off everything straight away. If for nothing else, at least do it so you dont have to eat your words later when you find yourself addicted to something you repeatedly put down..Its amusing to the people around you, but I'm sure you wouldnt enjoy it
