Next Gen already??
Once again it appears the time for all the talk about the next generation of consoles. Admittedly it would be nice for them to be released or something to happen to end Sonys dominiance, but personally i'm sure that the current consoles still have a lot to offer.
Anyway here's how the latest stuff goes..
Even though there had been news to the contrary it appears the development period of the CELL (what sony are banking on to really make the PS3) will be ready in time for the release of the console. At a shareholders meeting , SCE honcho Ken Kutaragi said that the initial period for development was complete, and that tech demos will be released by the end of the fiscal year.
In other words, we'll be seeing PS3 next E3 apparently.
So PS3 could even be sitting in Japanese homes new years day 2005. Then of course maybe summer, or 2006 here in Europe.
As for Xbox 2, or whatever it'll finally be called. Japanese release date is reportedly 2006. Which to be honest would not surprise me. However i should point out that 2006 in Japan does not neccessary mean 2007 over here. As you may well know, Microsoft have been struggling over there, so this may be an intentional delay in the hope they'll get a bigger user base with Xbox, and then have a bigger platform on which to launch the follow up.
In short, the war of words has begun. The hype is close on its heels. And will continue till we see them actually on the shelves
